lived there around 1926 He had someone to run it for him as he was busy with his shoe
shop.
MY GRANDFATHER ALBERT GREENWOOD WAS BORN 1871 QUEENSBURY WEST YORKSHIRE, HE LEFT YORKSHIRE ALONG WITH HIS FATHER JACOB GREENWOOD AFTER HIS MOTHER SABINA DIED. HE STARTED UP A BOOT AND SHOE SHOP AT NUMBER 213 FYLDE ROAD PRESTON LANCASHIRE, WHEN MY GRANDPARENTS MARRIED THEY BOUGHT IVY COTTAGE WITH MONEY LEFT TO MY GRANDMOTHER BY HER FATHER, HIS SON JAMES HELPED IN THE SHOP OFTEN ESPECIALLY WHEN MY GRANDFATHER TENDED HIS STOCK ON THE FARM, HE BOUGHT THE FARM AND LAND IN HASLAM PARK CALLED "BOSTOCKS FARM", THE FAMILY LIVED THERE FOR ABOUT FOUR AND A HALF YEARS, HE BOUGHT THE FARM AND LAND WITH THE IDEA OF PAYING SOMEONE ELSE TO RUN IT, AS HE STILL WANTED TO RUN THE SHOE MAKING BUSINESS. THE FARM DIDN'T WORK OUT SO THEY RETURNED TO A HOUSE NEAR THE SHOP.
DURING THE FIRST WORLD WAR, HE HAD A HORSE AND CART BUSINESS, ELIZABETH ELLEN BOUGHT AND SOLD SECOND HAND CLOTHES FROM SOLDIERS SELLING OFF THEIR CIVILIAN CLOTHING WHICH WAS SURPLUS TO REQUIREMENTS BECAUSE OF THEIR CALL UP.
ALBERT HAD BUILT UP HIS SHOE BUSINESS FROM SCRATCH, HAVING BEEN TRAINED IN SILSDEN. THE SHOE BUSINESS DIED WITH HIM. AT ONE STAGE HE EMPLOYED AS MANY AS 17 MEN IN HIS BUSINESS. HE MADE SURGICAL SHOES AS WELL AS REPAIRING AND MAKING NEW ONES. WITH THIS MANY CHILDREN ELIZABETH ELLEN BAKED 18 LOAVES EVERY OTHER DAY AND THE GIRLS HELPED OUT WITH CLEANING AND IRONING.
THEY NEVER WENT HUNGRY, WITH A LARDER FULL OF FOOD FOR THEM TO EAT. SHE MANAGED TO HELP OUT OTHER FAMILIES IN THE AREA.

She went to America and was a ladies maid. She returned to England and died a spinster in 1980 Preston Lancashire England.

Thomas Greenwood born 1894-1921 Preston Lancashire England he appeared in the 1901 census at 8 Wellington road Preston at the age of 7. He appeared in the 1911 census as 8 Wellington road Ashton on Ribble aged 17. In August 1911 he was a Packing case maker at Dick Kerrs Preston. On September 1st 1914 he was a Private 12789 in Loyal North Lancs regiment 2/4 Battalion.
National Health approved society =oddfellows society Preston Number unknown Enrolled for 3 years.Thomas was described 5ft.8 inches tall 130 lb 4 acination marks on his left arm. On 17th February 1915 he was a soldier in France and flanders. On 17th May 1915 he was a soldier in T Martins. He experienced illness on 2nd June 1915 at Sidworth. On injury to nose owing to a kick from a mule 4 days in hospital.
On 4th February, 1919 Thomas was an end service in France 3 years 7 months in the inventory.
Pains across his back due to getting wet through Whilst carrying rations. On the 4th February 1919 Thomas was a soldier in Fulwood Barracks. On 5th March 1919 he was a transfer to army reserve Z examined on discharge at Agnez Le Duisans. France 26th January 1919, British Labourer soldier.
He appeared in the 1921 census in 8 Wellington Road Ashton on Ribble age 27 in 1921 he was a labourer at Dick Kerrs, Britannia Lamp works Preston.
He died 28th September 1921 He died at the royal infirmary Preston, misadventure.
He was buried on 3rd October 1921at Preston Cemetery
